Modern Midu is a pleasant, if somewhat nondescript county town, mostly laid out on a grid. The older part of town, to the north, has recently been improved with a new park, renovated temple complex and a library and museum, as often lacking any real display.
A few kilometers to the east is the 'Natural Bridge' 天生桥, a temple complex in a pretty valley, that ends in a large karst arch. To the north of the county town are the collapsing remains of the 玉皇阁 from where it is possible to walk along country lanes to the 铁柱庙, a temple built around an iron stele dating back to Nanzhao times.
The bus terminal is in the north, near the older part of town. Accommodation dispersed throughout the city.
