Dickson Hall was one of the first Westerners to study at Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) after the Cultural Revolution (1966–76). He's the author of Chinese Paintings in the Palace Museum (4th–14th Century), a catalogue written in English by a Western scholar with unprecedented access to the paintings held by the Palace Museum, Beijing, originally published in the late 1980s and re-released in a colour edition by The Forbidden City Publishing House in late 2016.
Nicely reedited catalogue of early Chinese paintings collected at the Beijing Palace Museum, good reproductions.
